 ST. PATRICK'S DAY
One of the only holidays instantly identified by a single color, St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) may not be a common gift-giving event, but you should feel free to break the mold.

Whether you and your sweetie met on that day and you want to commemorate the moment, or you need a gift yourself, to get you past the inevitable slump of March 18th, a canvas print artwork is a great option. Meaningful and personal, but easy to have some fun with, this museum-quality wall decor will be around long after the headache has faded.

To get you in the mood, here's a classic Irish ode, written to memorialize Molly Malone, a fair fishmonger who died too young. Molly's statue was erected in Dublin in 1988, the same day June 13th was named Molly Malone Day.

In Dublin's fair city,
where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
	As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
	Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh"

PICKING THE PERFECT GIFT

It's always more fun to receive a creative, personal gift than a generic one. And it's usually just as much fun for the gift giver to pick out a really special, meaningful present.

This St. Patrick's Day, get some of that famous "luck of the Irish" for yourself by giving a thoughtful, Celtic-themed gift. A present should always reflect the style of the recipient. Here are some tips:

  • Snoop around his or her house. Not into drawers and closets, but try to get a feel for the lucky person's decorating scheme. If they like delicate wallpapers and pastels, consider a similarly themed image in pale colors: a simple four leaf clover, for instance. If the decor leans more toward bright, bold colors, a lush Irish field may suit.

  • Bring up home decor-related conversations, and then listen. Does she mention an area she wishes was better decorated? Does he tell you about a color scheme he's planning? If a blank wall is a subject of despair, try to sneak a measurement so you can order an artwork of the perfect size.

  • If you're unable to browse yourself, make use of your own knowledge or chat with other people who know the person. Does he long to visit Ireland? Does she talk in a thick Irish brogue when provoked? An image of urban Dublin, or a bucolic scene with a crumbling castle in the distance may be just the ticket.

  • Once you've settled on the image, consider the presentation. Do they already have a number of canvases hanging in the home? If so, you might choose to stick with that display, or pick out one of our beautiful canvas floater frame to accentuate the picture.

  • If you don't have access to the perfect image, or for any other reason you're unable to select a canvas print or frame, why not let them pick their own, on you! We offer Gift Certificates in custom denominations. We can send the recipient the code via email, or print a physical certificate and mail it straight to them!
Whatever your budget or relationship with the recipient, put some serious thought into the gift. Your efforts will be recognized and appreciated.

HISTORY OF ST. PATRICK'S DAY

St. Patrick's Day was originally established to celebrate the life and works of St. Patrick, a 5th century figure who died on March 17th, 461 (it is believed). For more than 1000 years, the restrictions of Lent have been lifted on this day to allow for serious drinking, feasting, and dancing.

When the Irish began immigrating to North America, they brought their holiday with them. Today, many cities celebrate with huge parades that see tens of thousands of participants. New York City's St. Patrick's Day parade, first held in 1848, involves more than 150,000 people, and sees audiences of around 3 million!

Though in many cases, St. Patty's Day is an excuse to guzzle green beer and stay out late on a weeknight, it did begin as the celebration of an important figure in Irish history.
