Guide: Everything You Need to Know About Signage Standoffs
Did you know that many business organizations choose to have acrylic floater frames for their poster and sign displays? All because, acrylic floater frames have a very bald, elegant and professional feel and its standoff system does not take away from the main point of view, but compliments the message that is being presented. You may think that framing hardware does not have an aesthetic impact on something as ordinary as a campaign poster, but after using sign standoffs, you will think twice before making this assumption. Let's explore different types, methods of usage and many other interesting aspects of sign standoff screws and will decide if that is the right choice for you!

SUMMARY

Sign standoffs are hardware hanging systems that are primarily used to hang acrylic floater frames and its components and often elaborated into business/campaign companies signs, slogans, posters and many more. Standoffs are attached to the wall and are separated on all four sides of the frame, allowing a beautiful gap in between the sign, which leads to an eye-catching effect. Standoffs function as fasteners, which leads to a durable and creative mounting style. They come in different designs and finishes and are most common in chrome, copper, silver, and gold shades and are made out of aluminum brass or nylon. Their form is usually round and can fit through drilled holes.

There are two types of standoff hardware: Through-hole standoffs and Edge grip standoffs.

Through-hole Standoffs
Edge Grip Standoffs
Through-hole standoffs are considered the most popular style of standoff hardware system, as they create a visual impact on the sign. Through-hole standoffs allow holes to be drilled in the signage, which gives an opportunity to unscrew the caps, separating the artwork from the back of the frame. Edge grip standoffs are less popular choice, yet offer a great advantage. Edge grip standoffs located at the edges of the frame, which means there is no need to drill any holes. With an edge grip standoff, either the hardware or the sign itself is notched to allow the standoff to fit in and hold the sign in place.

Why Should You Consider Sign Standoffs?

Aesthetically Pleasing Display

There are hundreds of ways to present a sign or a poster, however standoff screws give a three-dimensional effect which stands out in comparison to traditional framing and can highlight the main idea of your company with its contemporary and future-thinking display. Overall, standoffs are considered to be a very versatile product as it comes in different styles and included in a very easy assembling process.

Material

Aside from the benefit of the visual appeal, standoffs can support the weight of the sign and secure the item to the wall. This way you will not have to worry about your logo falling down causing a safety hazard. Due to the ability to hold heavy signs for a long period of time, sign standoffs are commonly used for permanent menus, above reception desks, advertisements, and directory signs. Standoffs are constructed to be sturdy and create a levitation effect on the signage. Due to the material that standoffs are made from, it is considered a soft material that can be easily drilled, tapped and turned and does not rust after a long period of time.

Easy Mounting

The installation takes less than 10 minutes of your time! Even if you do not have any experience working with a standoff hardware system, you will find it easy and efficient, as 90% of the job would be done for you. All that is required is four drilled holes, anchors and screws and your signage will be up on the wall in no time!

Affordability

With the sea of benefits that standoffs have to offer, they are also reasonably priced and will be affordable for the acrylic floaters' enthusiasts. The standoff signage we offer is very reasonably priced. And when you factor in the enhanced look and reliability of standoffs, the overall value surpasses many other options out there.

What Should You Consider When Purchasing Standoffs?
When choosing standoffs, it is important to keep in mind what style of the hardware you are looking for and its proportions. You need to consider what shape, color and material will benefit your signage the most. If you would like to add some flair, you can always proceed with gold or colorful standoffs or perhaps edge grip standoffs altogether.

Once you choose the style of the standoff, it's time to make a few measurements. The diameter of the body is usually 9/16" or 3/16" so you will have to make sure which drill bit and anchors to use for the assembly. The diameter of the standoffs can be easily measured with the ruler or a tape measure. This information is valid, as you will have to match the screws, anchors and drilled holes and select accurate materials.

Once you feel settled on your choice, it is time for the installation!

How to Install an Acrylic Floater Frame?
The installation of the acrylic floater frame using the standoff hardware system is easy, affordable and fast!

You will need:

An acrylic floater frame with the artwork, sign, etc already attached to the back side of the frame.

Hammer

Spirit level and a pencil

Anchors and screws

Standoff hardware

Drill and a 9/16" drill bit

Screwdriver

Step 1: Place the frame on the wall and mark four holes using a pencil. Use a spirit level to make sure the frame is placed accordingly and mounted straight.

Step 2: Double check your artwork and make sure that the frame did not move, while you were making marks.

Step 3: Put the frame aside and drill four holes using a 9/16" drill bit in the wall for the anchors. Hammer the anchors until it is flush with the wall.

Step 4: Unscrew standoff caps from its base and dispose of plastic washers from the screws. Insert the screw into the large hole in the standoff base. Place the hardware on the wall and use a screwdriver to place screws into the anchors.

Step 5: Match the holes with the mounted standoffs. Insert standoff caps through the holes and turn to tighten into the standoff base. Do not tighten all the way, until all four standoffs have caps in the holes. Once all of them are placed correctly, you may fingertight the caps harder.

NOTE: If you would like to remove the existing artwork, you may simply unscrew the caps and discard the art piece, replacing it with the new print or poster.
