"Artware Editions invokes the sensibility of the first artist's store, that is Marion Goodman's Multiples, because they know artist's don't think of objects as designers do." (PAPER Magazine)
We opened our doors in 2006 in the heart of New York City's West Village neighborhood. In 2011, we moved to our new, expanded location on Bowery across from the New Museum and the Lower East Side galleries. Since our beginning, Artware Editions has been featured in The New York Times more than a dozen times, as well as other leading fashion, art and shelter magazines like W, Architectural Digest and Art & Auction.
We specialize in collaborating with visual artists to produce functional design objects and are considered a "leading company in this niche but growing sector" (Financial Times Weekender). The pieces we carry vary widely in medium and function and have only two criteria in common: utility, and a strong visual and conceptual connection to the artists' larger bodies of work.
We work directly with established and emerging international artists to create our own line of exclusive editions, and we also collaborate with other producers in our marketplace to provide a curated and thorough inventory of artist-designed functional work that is both new and historical.
Additionally, our relationships with The Estate of Sol LeWitt and the Yves Klein Estate have allowed us to make available throughout the world the coffee tables designed by these two seminal 20th Century artists.
Finally, we participate in leading international art fairs like The Armory Show, NYC, and Pulse Miami and are dedicated to supporting and working with visual artist's interested in exploring design.
WHO WE ARE:
After receiving her MA from The University of Chicago in art history and philosophy, Rebecca Kong was Director at Alan Koppel Gallery (Chicago) and then Donald Young Gallery (Chicago) where she worked with such prestigious artists as Gary Hill, Bruce Nauman and Richard Serra, and published on the work of Rodney Graham. She then moved to New York City where she was the first Director at Peter Freeman, Inc. prior to opening Artware Editions.
Jon Tomlinson has a diverse background in the arts ranging from owning his own gallery in New York City to working at the largest youth center in the country overseeing an arts/literacy program pairing artists with inner city youth to create photography exhibitions. Prior to moving to New York City, Jon owned Flipside Arts in San Francisco, which specialized in collaborating with mostly Bay Area artists to create functional objects, thus beginning his fascination in the field. He returned to this interest as Director of A/D Gallery in New York City before opening Artware Editions with Rebecca Kong. He has a BA in English literature and philosophy after studying at Michigan State University and Roehampton Institute in London. |
