Business Services: Eric Firestone Gallery is committed to breaking new ground with exhibits that stretch the limits of contemporary language. Working with artists whose thinking is broadly inventive and often cutting edge, the focus of Eric Firestone Gallery is unique, bringing to the viewing public not only contemporary art and design but also on street art, new genres and popular culture.
In New York since 2010, current exhibits include Return Trip, curated by Eric Firestone, Carlo McCormick and Med Sobio, on view through May 31 at the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson and I’m An Artist Living in New York, featuring historic photographs of famed artists of the 20th Century celebrating the cultural phenomenon, New York City. I’m An Artist Living in New York, curated by Eric Firestone, is on view at The Maidstone in East Hampton.
Recent exhibitions include Vincent Longo, Selected Works 1960s and 1970s an exhibit that examines the art of the painter and master printmaker Vincent Longo, The Talented Mr. Geist, Selected Works from the Estate of Sidney Geist (1914 – 2005), the 2011 blockbuster, Nose Job, in which artists such as Ryan McGinness, Richard Prince, Raymond Pettibon, Shepard Fairey and Kenny Scharf created original works of art on military aircraft nose cones. An extension of the gallery and curator Carlo McCormick’s interest in Nose Art and its legacy, Nose Job incorporated aspects of “The Boneyard Project,”© in which an international selection of artists will create site-specific works on repurposed military jets located on a broad swath of Arizona desert. Domestic Goods, curated by the artist Ryan Wallace, featured works by Shelter Serra, Chris Duncan, Eddie Martinez and Andrew Schoultz; and ABC123, curated by Janet Goleas, focused on text and numerals, included the work of Joshua Abelow, Chris Caccamise, Alfred Jensen, Dennis Oppenheim, Kay Rosen and more.
In 2010 Firestone mounted several distinctive exhibits; among them Warhol: Dylan to Duchamp, Down by Law and Hyperbolic Aerosolic: The Roots on the New York City Underground.
