Business Services: The Gallery

The J. Willott Gallery opened in 2007 with a focus and determination to represent museum quality artwork from internationally accomplished artists. The gallery currently boasts an impressive roster of artists including Theodore Waddell, Richard Jolley, Dean Mitchell, Julie Speidel, John Evans, and Michael Chapman.

"We remain dedicated to providing our clients with access to the highest quality artwork available. We believe whole-heartedly in the importance of solid business ethics and treating the collector with great care and respect. We value each guest to our gallery and welcome anyone who has a passion and appreciation for art."
The J. Willott Gallery was designed and built by owners Josh Paquette and Josh Otten. The "Two Joshes", as often called, grew up together in Bethel, Maine; a rural town in the western part of the state just a few miles from the New Hampshire border. After graduating from the highly regarded preparatory school Gould Academy, Josh P headed to the College of Santa Fe to pursue a degree in photography while Josh O attended Wake Forest University on a baseball scholarship.

Josh O worked his way from relative unknown to starting shortstop by his sophomore year and was part of two Atlantic Coast Conference championships teams in 1998 and 1999. A back injury sustained in the summer of '98 while playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League forced Josh to hang up his cleats halfway through his final year. The injury turned out to be a blessing as it afforded Josh his first opportunity to explore the world outside of athletics.

While living in Lake Tahoe and working in commercial real estate a few years removed from college life, Josh O was haunted by a childhood passion. As a young teen his father took him on a Helicopter Skiing trip to the remote mountains of western Canada. Josh was unable to shake the visions of endless powder, perfect runs and pristine alpine vistas. An excellent skier but a mountaineer with little experience, Josh O set out on a course to become a mountain guide and after 2 years of training, he was hired by the premier Heli-Ski outfit in the world, Mike Wiegele Heli-Ski located in tiny Blue River, BC. Josh O spent 4 winters as a ski guide, shepherding groups of avid skiers through dangerous wilderness terrain while flying from peak to peak in a Bell 212 helicopter. "An absolute dream come true. Growing up I always heard the cliché 'do it while you're young'. I'm glad I listened."

After high school Josh P. was looking for new adventure and knew he had to make a bold jump. He applied and was accepted to the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico; a small, private art school with a tradition rooted in the southwest. He soon eagerly found himself 2500 hundred miles from home and immersed in a culture that excited him for years. Through its rich culture of food, art and native peoples, Santa Fe provided Josh P with incredibly opportunities to learn and grow as an artist and a young man. At The College of Santa Fe Josh P created the opportunity to combine his love of photography with his love for foreign cultures. Josh gathered a faculty committee and proposed that a new curriculum dedicated to Documentary Photography be put in place. One of those faculty members was a biology professor working with US AID to secure land for group of African descendants brought to the Ecuadorian Jungle more than 300 years ago during the slave trade. Josh's drive greatly influenced the professor and soon after he was successful in adding the new curriculum. Josh P and a small group of other students spent the last semester their senior year in the Ecuadorian Rain forest shooting a documentary on remote tribes which is still some of the finest imagery Josh has ever captured.

Needless to say this experience only fueled Josh's passion for travel and adventure. After college Josh took his new-found love of the southern hemisphere and his growing Spanish skills and landed a job exporting refurbished casino equipment to South America. Soon after the excitement and danger of the South American casino business wore off, Josh was encouraged by a friend to return to the Southwest to pursue his interests in art and culture. Returning to Santa Fe and working his way from ground up, Josh was hired by a prestigious western fine art gallery with locations throughout the west. For the next three years Josh travelled back and forth between the galleries and Argentina before an opportunity to open a branch here in Palm Desert arose. The expanding gallery pegged Josh P, then 28 years old, to open and direct the new gallery on the prestigious El Paseo drive.

A few years later Josh O arrived in Palm Desert on a visit, fell in love with the desert and like many others, never left. Josh P's gallery was bought out by a land management company and he and Josh O quickly devised a plan to open their own gallery using many of the artists left behind by the former gallery. The Joshes got to work swinging hammers early in the summer of 2007 and through their own efforts the J. Willott Gallery opened in September of the same year. They designed the gallery from ground up including branding and the build-out. It was the Joshes who were completely responsible for the tile, the drywall and paint, hvac, information wiring and too much more to list. Proud of their efforts the J. Willott Gallery is a direct reflection of the owner's hard work.
