Richard Kehmeier is a 4th generation Colorado native. His family has owned a ranch in Western Colorado since 1896 and he has grown up enjoying the beauty of Colorado in all seasons. After graduating from high school, he attended Colorado School of Mines earning his degree in geology. His career has taken him to many places outside the borders of the United States where tourists rarely visit, from the high Andes in South America, to the high arctic in Canada, to the deserts of Namibia. His knowledge of nature and his training in geology have given him a Unique Perspective that is expressed in his photography from sweeping landscapes to delicate macro photos of flowers, birds, and insects. Richard’s love of the outdoors was fostered by his father and grandfather who took him from the age of 5 or 6 into nature. His father often traveled with a camera and had several boxes of 35mm slides that documented his views of the beauty of nature. Richard’s photography avocation began in earnest while in graduate school. From then on, he traveled with a camera wherever he went—from his own backyard to the exotic locales of his geology projects. Richard lives in Conifer Colorado with his wife Andrea and two dogs. His wife is an avid gardener, and her flower garden provides myriad opportunities to photograph flowers, birds, and insects. Living in the foothills makes access to the Colorado Rocky Mountains easy, so he takes numerous day trips to the mountains in all seasons seeking new photo opportunities. Online Gallery
